Projects

A global chronicle of humanity that uniquely and authentically documents life on planet Earth. Week of Life is a photographic project founded in 2009 by photographer Adolf Zika. Anyone, anywhere in the world can freely record their life in the format of nine photographs a day for seven consecutive days, contributing their unique “sample of life” to this photographic chronicle of mankind.

Nine photographs taken from morning until evening, together forming one big photograph of the day, are capable of triggering memories in the brain – even memories from years ago – of events and situations that may not even be depicted in the photographs. This groundbreaking discovery was scientifically confirmed at the request of WoL and continues to be studied by university students and professors.

The Week of Life project has two main groups of users::

  • AUTHOR – an active user who creates weeks of their life, follows other users’ weeks and communicates with them through the project.
  • VIEWER – a user who does not create their own weeks but actively follows the content of the project.

Viewers get a chance to step into the lives of other people across the globe and to compare the lives of people in specific professions in different countries. Together, both groups form a large community united by a joy for life and desire to create. By mid-2025, WoL had collected nearly 1.6 million photographs, with almost 1200 active users from 50 countries and 450 cities.

Renowned award-winning photographer Adolf Zika realized since the early days of digital photography that it enabled passionate photo hobbyists of all sorts of professional backgrounds something that was previously impossible: creating visually powerful images at the same technical quality levels as pros, but with a unique perspective based on their personal lifes, passions and often success in other fields of professional life. Approach of non-professional photographers is future of photography. Often unencumbered by static rules of established photography they came up with their own new perspective on composition, color (or black and white) schemes, and saw as personal expression in the art of photography. Adolf Zika brought many of these photographers from around the world together in the WeekOfLife project and gave them the opportunity to practice their skills in documenting their evyday lives. Carefully selecting from many thousands of submitted images we saw the project hatch gems, often rough, then refined diamonds. Over time that has become the substance and base for PHOTOBANK WOL.

PHOTOBANK WOL is a unique archive of high-quality artistic photographs for interiors in hotels, office buildings, banks, shopping centers, and also private residences. It is a worldwide unique collection of photographs, paradoxically but intentionally created from collections of non professional photographers, who are the innovative visual leaders of our long term project WeekOfLife. This is key to the success of this project, which we have prepared for years, and feel it is now spectacular enough to release.
